Free Chrome OCR extension — on-device text

Frequently asked questions

Does OCR work without the internet?

After language packs download, recognition runs locally. Some optional translation paths may need a network connection.

Can I use screenshots?

Yes. Paste from the clipboard or drop a file. You can also select an area on a page when Chrome allows capture.

Which languages are supported?

Dozens of OCR languages are available with search in the picker. The extension UI is localized separately from OCR languages.

Will handwriting work?

Neat handwriting sometimes converts; printed text is the most reliable.

Where is my data stored?

OCR output can be copied immediately. Optional history stays in browser storage until you clear it.

How do permissions work?

The extension needs access to run the side panel, store settings, capture areas you start, and write to the clipboard. See the Privacy Policy for analytics and feedback hosts.
